Ocean Deep

“I couldn’t get you to the ocean, but there was nothing stopping me bringing the ocean to you.”

– Neil Gaiman, The Ocean at the End of the Lane

We are oceans, deep and dark
Where raging storm and surface calm
Churn against horizon stark
As sirens sing alluring psalms

We plunge the abyss of our souls
Digging deep into the deep
To stumble on stars between the ghouls
Stars who laugh and weep and never sleep

We hurl the night towards our Home
Within the tempest our dark entwines
Swirls velvet froth and delightful foam
While sentinels keep steady watch and shine

We explore mysteries at the other’s seams
Immersing our selves from Egg to Rose
As unformed longings and layered dreams
Commingle in a sea of prose

We know not whether ’tis dark or light
That draws the oceans from our wells
But let PETER’s sword cut through the night
Let Aelred’s nameless love bespell

“You don’t pass or fail at being a person, dear.”
