Whenever a loved one passes away, there is tears, sadness, and pain.

But there is a different kind of grief when someone young passes. It is a mourning not just for loss, but for disorder: something has happened that was not supposed to, something not in the natural order of things, something wrong. I felt it at Jon’s wake. I felt it this time too.

Why did it happen? Could we have done anything? What went wrong? These are the questions that death poses and life has no answers to.

Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
